Pat McCall jokingly says she has 3 Golden Retrievers who allow her to live at "their" house! Pat has enjoyed the remarkable companionship of dogs for most of her adult life. Growing up on the farm, there were always many kinds of animals around. Pat feels she learned her love and regard for animals from her mother, whose compassion extended to even the pesky ones who raided the family garden. When Pat was finally able to have a dog of her own, she received a little mixed breed from the local shelter. Taking him to obedience classes was the beginning of the road to dog training and competition. In 1981, Pat and her first Golden, "Sunset", were among the first students with the newly formed Companion Dog Training School, and were the first team from CDTS to earn a "High in Trial" score. Since that time, Pat has continued to train and show several other Goldens to AKC and UKC titles. Pat and her dogs have also competed in regional and national competitions. Most recently, Pat is proud of her "Caper", who at 8 years old finished her Utility Dog title, the highest class in regular obedience competition. Pat is currently training her young dog, "Scatter". Pat is a member of the Golden Retriever Club of America; is a Board Member of Sandlapper Golden Retriever Club, and is the club's correspondent to the GRCA's national magazine. She is active with Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue. Pat has been with CDTS for nearly 25 years, and enjoys teaching the Puppy and Beginner classes. Pat takes great joy in helping others to discover the extraordinary relationship between human and canine, and to assist them in getting on the road to a long and happy companionship for years to come. Pat's philosophy is that once we make the decision to get a dog and to bring that dog to live in our lives, we become responsible for that dog's well-being for the entirety of its life. Training the dog in appropriate behavior is a big part of that responsibility. "A loved dog is a trained dog, and a trained dog is a companion for life."
